HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Marshall women's soccer team hits the road for one last non-conference road swing before moving on to Conference USA action. The Thundering Herd takes on the High Point Panthers, Friday at 7 p.m., from Vert Stadium.
The Herd will then move on to play at Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
Marshall enters the match at 1-3-1 while the Panthers come in at 1-4-1.
"We are eager to play these two games to finish up our non-conference schedule," Herd head coach Kevin Long said. "A week away from starting conference play, we are looking to play with more consistency – having more consistent success in what we want to do with the ball, and better consistency in making it harder for teams to gain goal scoring chances against us.
"Equally, we are eager to play two competitive games in this Friday/Sunday format. Putting two good games back-to-back has been a challenge and we hope to do a better job at that this weekend."
The Herd is coming off a loss to the Ohio Bobcats, 3-1, this past Sunday. Farah Abu-Tayeh leads the team with three goals and two assists. The junior forward has contributed points in each of the past four matches with either a goal or an assist. Redshirt junior Jayne Lawman, senior Ashley Seltzer and junior Marah Abu-Tayeh have all scored a goal each. Junior Megan Bonelli has been the workhorse in the net, playing every minute (470) so far this season. Bonelli has 28 saves with 10 goals allowed. She has 147 career saves, fifth all-time in Herd history.
The Panthers won its season-opener, 4-0, over Appalachian State. Since then, High Point as gone on a winless streak of five matches and scored just two goals. The opponents during the streak have been UNC-Wilmington (2-0), VCU (3-1), Virginia Tech (2-1), Elon (0-0) and UNC-Greensboro (4-0). Freshmen Skyler Prillaman and Caitlin Shepherd lead the Panthers with two goals each. High Point has used three different players in the net this season with senior Emily Lyon (225 minutes), senior Charlotte Kennedy (180 minutes) and junior Talia Klimes (155 minutes) all logging time. Lyon has recorded 10 saves and allowed three goals. Klimes has 13 saves and two goals allowed while Kennedy has 14 saves and six goals allowed.
