HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - In the second ever Marshall Women's Classic, the Thundering Herd came away with a big win on Saturday afternoon. The event, which was held at the Jeff Small Track in the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex, consisted of seven teams including Marshall--making the three individually won events even more impressive.

Marshall finished with 129.5 team points, squeezing by second place Duquesne's 129 team points. James Madison finished third with 108 points, and Ohio, Wright State, Cleveland State, and Morehead State finished fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Macie Majoy claimed first place in the pole vault with a top clearance mark of 3.45 meters.

Senior Hasana Clark finished second in weight throw, with a distance of 18.40 meters, while senior Elena Marchand placed second in shot put (14.35 meters).

Marshall had a great result in the 60 meter hurdles final, with junior Safiyyah Mitchell finishing first and sophomore Taylor Robinson finishing second. In the process, Mitchell secured a Marshall Women's Classic record with her preliminary time of 8.56.

In the Triple Jump, freshman Takira Williams' distance of 11.92 meters was good for first place.

While the Herd's three individual victories were crucial for the team win, the 10 top-three finishes shouldn't go unnoticed. Look for Marshall to continue its recent string of strong performances next weekend at the KeyDet Invitational.

"We were rusty but still had a good showing. We knew it'd be tight, so we are glad to come away with the win," said head coach Jeff Small. "No one got hurt, so we'll be focusing on the meets ahead."
