Batson Wins Weight Throw to Kick Off Thundering Herd Invite

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.- In what was a day one fairly light on events, Marshall track and field came through with some great performances at the fifth annual Thundering Herd Invitational.

For the second year in a row, senior Reneese Batson finished first in weight throw at the Thundering Herd Invitational. Her mark of 19.27 meters is now her personal best in the event. Batson, who previously held the sixth best mark of any Conference USA athlete all season, could very likely see herself at the top of the C-USA leaderboard next week.

Hasana Clark also managed third in weight throw, finishing with a top mark of 18.69 meters.

Sophomore Josie Raines placed third in long jump out of twenty-one other athletes, with her top mark coming in at 5.42 meters.

Freshman Alexandria Evans and Junior Mary Kerby both competed in the 5000 meter, with Evans finishing 21st and Kerby finishing 23rd.

While day two officially kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Herd athletes will start their day with three field events at 10 a.m.: pole vault, high jump, and shot put.
