Baseball Dominates Game Two of Series Against FIU, 16-5

Marshall records 20-hit game for second-time in the last week
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After dropping the series opener on Friday, Marshall baseball (11-6, 1-1) got the bats going to take game two on Saturday, 16-5, over FIU to even the series.
The Panthers got on the board first in the top half of the first with a run, but Marshall tied it up the next half with an RBI-double by Zach Inskeep that brought home Tucker Linder.
After Herd starter Zac McNeel induced an inning-ending double play, Marshall struck for three runs with an RBI-double by Geordon Blanton to score Andrew Zban, Blanton scoring on an Erik Rodriguez after an error by the FIU leftfielder and Rodriguez scoring on a wild pitch to take a 4-1 lead.
FIU added two runs in the top of the third, but the Herd struck for a big inning in its half of the third with six runs. Marshall scored those runs on a Zban RBI-single, a Raul Cabrera sacrifice bunt, another FIU error, a two-RBI single by Shane Hanon and Inskeep's second RBI-double of the night to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
Linder joined in with an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth, followed by Inskeep bringing home his third run of the day later in the inning to go up 12-3.
After FIU scored a run in the top six, havoc cut loose in the bottom of the sixth. After Blanton scored on a Panther error in the bottom of the inning, both benches cleared. Each team's head coach was ejected, Marshall's Rodriguez was ejected as were FIU assistant coach/director of player personnel Gabe Alfaro and infielder Kobe Lopez.
The Panthers scored another run in the top of the seventh, but Marshall scored two more in the eighth on a Blanton RBI-double and a Hannon RBI-single to win by the eventual margin of 16-5.
Ryan Falls was credited with the win after giving up two runs, one earned in 4.1 innings of relief giving up three hits, three walks and striking out three Panthers. It was Falls' third win of the season.
Bryan Callaly pitched shutout eighth and ninth innings allowing just one base runner on a walk and striking out three.
UP NEXT
The Herd looks to win the series on Sunday in the rubber match against FIU. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
