Herd heads to Rock Hill next week

ATLANTA, Ga.- Marshall freshman Macie Majoy set a new outdoor school record in the pole vault Saturday on the final day of competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta.

Majoy's mark of 12 feet, 1.5 inches (3.70 meters) broke the old mark of 12 feet even (3.66 meters), set by Lauren Zaglifa last year at the Conference USA Championships in Houston.

The Herd finished with two top-five finishes in shot put, one of the first events of the day. Senior Hasana Clark took third in the event, with a mark of 13.72 meters. Freshman MaryAnn Adebayo also managed fifth with her mark of 13.15 meters. Per TRFFS, Clark and Adebayo's marks are second and third, respectively, in Conference USA.

In Marshall's first javelin throw of the season (javelin is an outdoor-only event), Heidi Heiniger and Sylvia Terente finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Continuing Marshall's early success in field events, senior Reneese Batson placed fifth in discus. Her mark of 43.5 meters puts her in fifth in Conference USA.

Moving over to track events, one particular performance of note was Christianna Dogan's in the 400 meter hurdles. Dogan finished third in the event, clocking a time of 1:02.30. That time gives her both the top time in Conference USA and the 25th-best time nationally. Freshman Ashonti Warner also finished eighth in the race.

Brandy Elysee went on to finish 10th in the 200-meter race, a strong result considering it drew a field of 60+ competitors.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Saffiyah Mitchell and Taylor Robinson finished 13th and 15th, respectively (field of 40+ athletes). Kayla Haywood also finished 14th in the 200 hurdles (field of 50+ athletes).

All in all, in an invitational with stiff SEC and ACC competition, the Herd still managed five top-5 finishes in field events and four top-10 finishes in track events.
