Capuano’s Strong Start Pushes Baseball Past Ohio

The Herd scored six runs on eight hits

ATHENS, Ohio – Led by a dominating pitching effort, Marshall baseball (15-8) takes down Ohio, 6-1, at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens on Tuesday night.
The Herd's pitching staff combined to give up just one run on five hits and four walks as it set down eight Bobcats via the strikeout.
Marshall starter Ryan Capuano went five innings of three hit, one run baseball as he gave up just one run and struck out three en route to his first win. The freshman righty also put up four 1-2-3 innings in the game.
Reliever Bryan Callaly struck out a season-high four batters in two innings. The trio of Hunter Sexton, Garrett Priestly and Chris Fryer combined to pitch the final two innings of the game without giving up a hit.
Erik Rodriguez got the scoring started in the top of the third by scoring Raul Cabrera on a sacrifice fly. Ohio's only run came in the bottom half of the third on a double.
Marshall struck for two runs in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Zach Inskeep and Elvis Peralta.
The next inning Tucker Linder smashed a two-run home run over the wall in left to extend the Herd lead to 5-1.
Peralta then scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth to secure the final run of the game.
Ohio was threating in the bottom of the eighth with runners at first and third, but Sexton induced an inning-ending double play.
NOTES
- Shane Hanon extend his on base streak to 17 games with a two-out triple in the first inning.
- Linder's home run was his fourth of the season and is also his second in as many games.
- Rey Pastrana's on-base streak came to an end at 12 games.
- Linder also extended his streak to eight and he has now had 10 multi-hit games and nine games with two or more RBI.
