Marshall Dominates Top Five in Charlotte on Saturday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On the second and final day of the Charlotte Invitational, the Thundering Herd took home seventeen top-five finishes—adding to the three it earned on Friday.
Junior Denisha West won the triple jump event with a 11.97-meter mark, just two weeks after jumping the same mark at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Takira Williams came through with the third-best mark (11.84 meters).
In long jump, sophomore Josie Raines and senior Lauren George placed second and fifth, respectively. Raines jumped a mark of 5.43 meters, while George posted a mark of 5.12 meters.
For the second competition in a row, Hasana Clark placed second in shot put with a mark of 13.70 meters. It was her second put of the outdoor season.
Christianna Dogan came in second place in the 400-meter hurdles, and her time of 1:01.07 happened to be her best of the outdoor season. Per TRFFS, it's the second best 400mH time in Conference USA. Ashonti Warner also placed third the event, with a time of 1:03.55.
Both of Marshall's relay teams, one running the 4x100m (47.02 seconds) and another running the 4x400m (3:51.05), took home second place.
A couple other highlights:
-Kayla Haywood finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.23 seconds).
-Safiyyah Mitchell placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.25), while her teammates Taylor Robinson and Christianna Dogan tied for fourth (14.58).
-Both Macie Majoy and Reneese Batson placed fourth in their respective events. Majoy vaulted a height of 11 feet and 8.5 inches and Batson logged a discus throw distance of 143 feet and 5 inches.
-Alex Minor of Marshall's men's cross country team finished fourth (15:36.08) in the 5000 meters, while Hunter Deem finished sixth (16:02.74).

The team heads to Charlottesville, Virginia for the University of Virginia Challenge.
