Baseball Prepares for 2019 C-USA Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball (28-26, 11-12 C-USA) is ready to take on third-seeded Louisiana Tech in game one of The First 2019 C-USA Baseball Championship presented by Air Force Reserve, at MGM Park in Biloxi, Miss. Also in Marshall's side of the bracket are the second seed Southern Miss and the seventh-seeded Rice.

Marshall is 4-5 against teams in its side of the bracket this season. All games at the tournament will be on ESPN+ or you can catch the games on radio with The Voice of the Thundering Herd Steve Cotton on play-by-play and Tom Linder on color.

Rice that saw three straight walk-off victories.
- Marshall's 17-9 home record is the best at home since 2016.
- MU is going to the C-USA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
- 13th-year head coach Jeff Waggoner won his 300th career game on May 14 at Ohio.
- Joshua Shapiro has been the team's ace this season starting all 10 Conference USA
Friday games. He's 5-3 with a 3.58 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.
- Erik Rodriguez leads C-USA and is third in the NCAA with 8 triples.
- Shane Hanon leads the team with .366 batting average, despite missing 22 games
due to injury.
- Elvis Peralta has a team-leading 9 home runs to go with 41 RBI and a .352 batting
average.
- Michael Guerrero has been dominant as the Marshall closer this season. He's put
up a 4-1 record in 25 appearances with 5 saves and 40 strikeouts.
- Catcher Rey Pastrana has not allowed a passed ball this season and is second on
the team with 8 homers.
- Tucker Linder leads MU with 47 runs-batted-in and had a hit streak of 22 games
and an on-base streak of 28 games during the season.
- Hanon has reached base safely in 26 consecutive games coming into the tournament.

This Season Vs. LA Tech
- The Herd went 1-2 in a series in Ruston this season.
- Shapiro struck out a career-high 12 batters in the Friday matchup.
- Tanner Huddleston was a thorn in the side of Marshall as he went 4-for-7 with two homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored. The infielder also drew five walks and reached on a hit-by-pitch twice.
- Peralta had five hits in 11 at bats for MU, including a homer, to go with three RBI.
