HISTORY THE ZIPS
Marshall vs. Akron – Marshall leads all-time 26-14 – last meeting April 14, 2015: Akron won 7-0

In 2020, Akron takes the field after a four-year period without the sport. The former Mid-American Conference rivals reignite their rivalry, as the Zips are led by the 1988 National League Rookie of the Year and Cincinnati Reds 1990 World Series Champion infielder Chris Sabo.

Akron is the second of three MAC schools Marshall faces this year: Bowling Green (1-1), Akron (4 games), Ohio (2 games).

Marshall last beat the Zips (and last hosted Akron) on April 1, 2014 in a 5-2 Marshall win.

MIDWEEK ROUNDUP
The Herd took the field Wednesday for a weeknight game at Virginia Tech, taking a 10-5 loss in Blacksburg.

Marshall was downed by a killer fourth inning, an inning which the Hokies scored eight runs, seven of which were unearned, on four hits, three walks, two errors and a passed ball.

The Marshall lineup, one through six, each recorded at-least one hit in the loss. Sophomore Luke Edwards drew a season-high two walks.

  • With his team-lead in home runs at two, junior Jaren Lovely holds a team-high in slugging percentage at .500.
  • Redshirt junior Robert Kwiatkowski has made a team-high six appearances among the pitching staff. He holds an active 4.0 inning scoreless and hitless streak, having struck out five batters compared to no walks over that span. He inherited the bases-loaded and no outs Wednesday at Virginia Tech and recorded two strikeouts and fly out to escape the jam.
