Track and Field Earns First Place Finish In Thundering Herd Invitational

Three event wins for Herd
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall track and field earned a first place team finish Saturday at the seventh annual Thundering Herd Invitational at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
The Herd earned a point total of 133 after the quad meet's 16 events were scored. Murray State finished second with 131 points, followed by West Virginia with 113 points and Ohio with 95.
"First off I was just glad to have all our healthy kids here and competing," head coach Jeff Small said. "We're getting back to a tiny bit of normalcy and I was pretty pleased with how things went today. We're looking forward to better things in the future."
Marshall athletes won three events in the meet. Senior Taylor Robinson earned a win in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.14. Four of the final eight qualifiers in the event represented Marshall.
Sophomore Mikah Alleyne took first in the 400m with a time of 58.58. Junior Erica Murphy finished third with a time of 58.90.
To close the meet and secure the team's first place finish, the 4x400m relay squad of Murphy, Alleyne, Ashonti Warner and Jillian King won the event with a time of 3:54.63.
Additional top finishes included junior Macie Majoy (2nd-3.70m/12 ft. 1.50 in.) and senior Lauren Zaglifa (3rd-3.60m/11 ft. 9.75 in.) in the pole vault.
Freshman Tori Dotson ran the second-fastest indoor 800m time in school history in her first collegiate race in the event. Her second place time of 2:14.57 nears Barkley Castro's 2017 school record time of 2:13.04.
Abby Herring in the mile, Astoria Beckett in the 600m, Sydnei Taylor in the 300m and Takira Williams in the long jump each earned third place finishes in their respective events to give the Herd six points each in the standings.
