Track and Field Earns Second Straight Meet Victory In Marshall Classic

Four event wins for Marshall
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – For the second straight weekend, Marshall track and field took first place overall in a home meet, with the Herd winning the Marshall Classic Saturday at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
After 15 events scored, Marshall earned 163.5 points, followed in second place by Conference USA opposition FIU with 117 points. WVU finished third with 68 points, followed by Eastern Kentucky with 61.5 points.
"I think we took another good step forward in getting ready for our conference meet," head coach Jeff Small said. "We have one more week to go, but really we had some awesome performances. Several marks are at the top of Conference USA like Tori Dotson in the 800 [meter] and MaryAnn Adebayo in the weight throw. We came through safe and healthy, and we're excited where we're at."
Freshman Tori Dotson won the 800m with a new collegiate personal record time of 2:13.61. Her time is the best in Conference USA this season and is less than a second off Barkley Castro's school record time of 2:13.04 set in 2017.
Junior MaryAnn Adebayo won the weight throw by nearly four feet. Her winning toss of 18.31 meters (60 feet 1 inch) is the best mark thus far in Conference USA this season. Adebayo additionally finished third in the shot put.
Junior Macie Majoy won the pole vault for the first time this season and for the fourth time in her collegiate career with a top clearance of 3.70m/12 ft. 1.50 in. She has won the pole vault each of the past three seasons in the Marshall Classic.
The Herd's 4x400m relay team of Erica Murphy, Ashonti Warner, Brandy Elysee and Mikah Alleyne ran a meet record time of 3:52.34, which is the third fastest time in the C-USA this year.
Alleyne also earned an individual win in the 300m with a time of 40.30. Her strong day was prefaced by a personal record time of 9.00 in the 60mH prelims.
Freshman Cari Hively won the 3000m with a time of 11:48.37.
Sophomore Abby Herring just missed her personal record in the mile run with a second place time of 5:06.67.
