Track and Field Concludes Indoor Regular Season With First Place Finish In Marshall Invitational

Majoy breaks school record in pole vault
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall track and field earned a first place finish Saturday in the Marshall Invitational at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
The Herd finished atop the standings for the third consecutive meet to successfully sweep its home slate. Marshall finished with 138 points, followed in second by Murray State's 119 points. FIU finished in third with 106 points, with Ohio ending with 72.
The meet, which honored the cross country and track & field program's seniors, marked the end of the indoor regular season.
Junior Macie Majoy broke the school record in the indoor pole vault. Her new indoor personal record of 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8.25 inches) eclipsed the previous record which her and senior Lauren Zaglifa co-held (3.86 meters). Majoy finished second in the event Saturday.
The Herd earned wins in three events, beginning with sophomore Mikah Alleyne taking the 400m with a time of 56.88.
Junior Ashonti Warner won the 300m for the second consecutive meet with a time of 40.94. She also took second place in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Herd also ended the meet in thrilling fashion. The 4x400m relay (team of Erica Murphy, Brandy Elysee, Talor Bennett, Jillian King) came down to the wire, with King as the anchor edging out her opponent from Murray State. The team ran in 4:00.71.
Additional second place finishes came from senior Torie Derrow in the high jump and junior MaryAnn Adebayo in the shot put. Junior Takira Williams finished third in the triple jump.
Sophomore Astoria Beckett finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.02, a personal record and the fifth-fastest personal record in school history.
