Herd Baseball Drops C-USA Opener at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Marshall baseball (4-8, 0-1 C-USA) dropped its Conference USA opener in Boca Raton to the Florida Atlantic Owls (11-9, 1-0 C-USA), 12-0, on Friday evening as the game was called after seven innings due to the C-USA 10-run rule.
FAU struck first with a run in the first. Marshall first baseman Zach Inskeep collected the Herd's first hit on a one-out single in the top of the second, but third baseman Peter Hutzal grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The Owls then scored four two-out runs on five two-out hits in the bottom of the second and collected another three runs in the third to lead the Herd 8-0.
Centerfielder Luke Edwards and second baseman Travis Sankovich recorded back-to-back two-out singles in the fourth, but were stranded where they stood to end the top half of the inning.
Marshall relief pitcher Brady Choban threw hitless fourth and fifth innings striking out three batters.
MU reliever Hunter Harritan threw the team's lone 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the sixth, but Florida Atlantic struck for four more runs in the bottom of the seventh as the game was called after the inning.
UP NEXT
The Herd will back in action with a double header on Saturday with the Owls beginning at 2 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
