Round Two Results (PDF)

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After a rain delay in the late afternoon, the Marshall men's golf team moved up the leaderboard on Saturday, following the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate. Sophomore Christian Boyd led the team with a 2-under 69 and climbed into the top 10.

The Thundering Herd improved its team score by 14 strokes and moved into seventh place. Marshall totaled a team score of 286, the fifth-best team score in the second round.

"It was a really long day for the guys today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We had a rain delay of about an hour and a half. I was really proud of the way the guys responded after the delay. The golf course was soaked and the conditions were not ideal, but they battled hard and finished strong. Christian (Boyd) played great today and his 2-under round was impressive. Tyler (Jones) played well again and is in the top 20 heading into tomorrow's final round.

"Will Straub improved nine strokes from his opening round and shot an impressive even par round. Matt Hoffman also showed great improvement today shooting a 72 and improved six strokes from yesterday. We are looking forward to tomorrow's final round."

Boyd tallied five birdies in the second round and jumped up 20 spots on the leaderboard and is tied for ninth. Sophomore Tyler Jones dropped back some but still remains in the top 20, tied for 16th. Redshirt senior Matt Hoffman moved up 24 places on the leaderboard and redshirt senior Will Straub moved up 25 places on the leaderboard.

As a team Marshall collected 13 birdies, with senior Noah Mullens playing as an individual recording one more as well.

The Furman Paladins still lead the home event by two strokes over Wofford College. Keller Harper of Furman remains the leader with a combined 7-under, 135. Harper has a two-stroke lead over teammate Walker Crosby who is playing as an individual.
