GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the final round of the Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday, from the Furman University Golf Course. Sophomores Tyler Jones and Christian Boyd both finished in the top 20.
The Thundering Herd ended the event tied for seventh place out of 17 teams.
"I was really pleased with our tournament this week," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We are showing improvement every tournament. Tyler (Jones) and Christian (Boyd) are playing great golf right now. They are hitting a lot of fairways and greens and keeping the game very simple. We have a short rest when we get home as we leave for Irish Creek on Wednesday."
Jones shot an even-par 71 on Sunday and climbed five places on the leaderboard to finish tied for 11th. Boyd scored a 2-over 73 and ended up tied for 14th. Redshirt senior Cameron Root saw a three-stroke improvement from Saturday. Senior Noah Mullens improved his score by one stroke from Saturday.
Herd golfers totaled another 10 birdies in the final round, bringing the total to 33 over the course of the event.
The Furman Paladins held on to win its home event by just two shots over Florida Gulf Coast. Keller Harper of Furman also held on for the win, staying ahead of Jon Hopkins of Florida Gulf Coast by three strokes.
