Men’s Golf Through Two Rounds at Mountaineer Invitational

Herd tees off in third round Tuesday at 9:20 a.m.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Marshall men's golf team played through on and off rain during the first day of the Mountaineer Invitational on Monday at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Marshall ended day one in ninth place out of 13 teams. The Thundering Herd tees off in the third and final round on Tuesday beginning at 9:20 a.m. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"I was really happy with the way we played this afternoon," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We didn't score very well in the morning round but played much better in the afternoon. The conditions were really tough today, it was a challenge. I really liked the way the guys fought and finished the day strong. I am looking forward to watching them compete tomorrow."
The Herd improved its team score by 12 strokes in the second round. Redshirt senior Cameron Root leads the team, tied for 31st, and jumped up 19 places on the leaderboard with a five-stroke improvement in the second round. Redshirt senior Matt Hoffman dropped his score by eight strokes and moved up 23 spots. Sophomore Christian Boyd saw the biggest improvement in the second round, dropping his score by 14, and finishing with a 1-over 73. Senior Noah Mullens improved by three strokes in the second round.
Southern Miss leads the field on the team side by three shots over the host West Virginia. Mark Goetz of West Virginia is atop the leaderboard after the first day with a four-stroke lead over Brice Wilkinson of Southern Miss.
