Herd Baseball Hosts ODU in C-USA Home Opening Series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (4-11, 0-4 C-USA) returns to the Kennedy Center as it hosts the Old Dominion Monarchs (17-5, 3-1 C-USA) in a four-game set for in its Conference USA home opening series set for Friday (Apr. 2) through Sunday (Apr. 4).

Marshall was swept in its C-USA opening series at FAU.

Sophomore centerfielder Luke Edwards leads the Herd with a .327 batting average and 18 hits this season. He's one of four on the squad to play and start in all 15 games this season.

Sophomore catcher Kyle Schafer has a team-high 11 RBI and is second in homers with four despite playing in only 10 of the team's 15 games this season.

Junior shortstop Geordon Blanton has been safe in six of his eight stolen base attempts.

Junior pitcher Raymond Pacella has started the season with 28 strikeouts in just 21.2 innings pitched in four starts.

Scouting ODU
The Monarchs have a 17-5 record to this point in the season and took three out of four games against FIU last weekend to open C-USA play.

Robbie Petracci leads ODU is batting average at .396, but Carter Trice has recorded 31 hits to lead the team. Trice also has a team-best eight doubles, and is tied for the team lead in home runs at six.

Andy Garriola has brought home 36 RBI this season, 14 more than second most on the Monarchs.

ODU's pitching staff has a combined 3.72 ERA this season. Leading the starters is Nick Pantos giving up just five runs, three earned, in four starts and six total appearances this season.
