Herd Baseball Set to Host Hilltoppers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After splitting a four-game series at then-ranked No. 14 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, the Marshall University baseball team (8-24, 4-16 C-USA) returns to the Kennedy Center for a series with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.

The Herd took two out four games from then-ranked No. 14 LA Tech in Ruston, La., last weekend.

Sophomores Luke Edwards, Cyrus Grimes and Travis Sankovich each batted at least .385 or better, with a homer and three runs scored in the series.

Sophomore Kyle Schaefer drove in six runs in the two contests he played in against the Bulldogs and hit the first grand slam of his career.

Senior Josh Zeboskey struck out eight Bulldogs across two appearances in the series.

Junior pitcher John Cheatwood and freshman pitcher Will Dando each picked up their first wins of the season.

Edwards leads MU with a .327 batting average, 12 doubles and 17 extra-base hits this season as freshman Ryan Leitch leads with seven homers and 18 RBI.

Junior Raymond Pacella has set down 53 batters via strikeout this season in 44 innings pitched.

The Hilltoppers are 19-21 this season with a 9-11 C-USA record.

Jackson Gray leads his side in batting average (.371), hits (43) and home runs (five) this season, while being tied for second in runs scored (25).

Matthew Meyer has a team-best 16 extra-base hits this season with 12 doubles, three homers and a triple, while Ray Zuberer III leads WKU with 27 RBI.

Pitcher Jake Kates has 70 strikeouts in 10 appearances this season to go with a team-best ERA, among qualifying pitchers, at 3.10.
