HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball (4-14, 0-7 C-USA) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Old Dominion (20-5, 6-1 C-USA) Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Center.

The Monarchs won the first game 8-7 and shutout Marshall in the second game, 8-0.

GAME ONE

The opener could not have started better offensively for the Thundering Herd. The first five batters reached base, including three straight hits from the top of the order, Devin Ward, Travis Sankovich and Luke Edwards.

Edwards' RBI double scored two and Zach Inskeep drove in Edwards on an RBI single to give Marshall an early 3-0 lead.

ODU bounced back with three runs in the second inning and two more in the third inning. The Herd responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Geordon Blanton led off the inning with his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

Edwards tied the contest later in the inning with his second RBI double of the game, scoring Sankovich. Edwards went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

The Monarchs countered again with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Marshall scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth with a sac fly from Edwards, and Ward scoring on a wild pitch, but the Herd would not threaten in the bottom of the seventh.

Hunter Harritan made his first career start and recorded no decision, going 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, walking three batters and striking out one.

Michael Guerrero (0-1) suffered the loss in his first appearance of the season in relief. He allowed three runs on two hits, walking three batters in 0.2 inning pitched.

Ayden Hodges struck out three of the four batters he retired, and Nick Adkins struck out the lone batter he faced to escape a jam in the top of the seventh.

Ward went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot, scoring two runs. Sankovich went 2-for-3 with a walk, having scored two runs. Inskeep had two hits in a 2-for-4 game with an RBI.

GAME TWO

The Monarchs scored an unearned run in the top of the first and led throughout. Old Dominion starter Hunter Gregory moved to 3-0 for the season with a complete game, seven inning shutout.

The Herd managed two hits for the game, as Devin Ward singled for his third total hit of the day. Zach Inskeep's single was also his third hit of the afternoon. Travis Sankovich drew a walk.

The Monarchs' Matt Coutney homered twice in the second game as part of seven extra-base hits in the game, including two triples.

Starter Raymond Pacella (0-3) suffered the loss. He went 6.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. He struck out seven batters and walked two.
