Herd Baseball Readies for Rubber Match at WVU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (8-32, 4-24 C-USA) heads to Morgantown on Tuesday for a rubber match with the West Virginia Mountaineers (17-23, 7-14 Big 12). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Marshall has split the first two meetings of the season with WVU, winning 7-1 in Huntington on March 23 and falling 9-3 in Morgantown on April 14.

In the victory, junior Geordon Blanton hit a leadoff home run and sophomore Kyle Schaefer followed with a three-run dinger in the third.

Junior Jordon Billups had an RBI double, freshman Cole Williams singled in a run and sophomore Travis Sankvich drove in a run in the victory.

Sophomore pitcher Ryan Capuano picked up the victory for Marshall throwing 3.1 hitless innings.

In the loss at Morgantown, freshman Ryan Leitch had a pair of RBI and freshman Devin Ward drove in a run.
Scouting WVU
The Mountaineers are coming off a series loss this weekend to Oklahoma dropping two of its three games against the Sooners.

Austin Davis leads WVU with a .292 batting average. Mikey Kluska has a team-high 24 RBI for the Mountaineers.

Matt McCormick, Paul McIntosh and Kevin Brophy have each blasted a team-high six home runs this season. McCormick's 16 extra-base leads the team.
