Herd Baseball Heads to No. 19 Charlotte

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (8-28, 4-20 C-USA) looks to get back on track as it heads to Charlotte to take on the No. 19 Charlotte 49ers (31-14, 18-6 C-USA) in a four-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

Marshall fell in a four-game series to Western Kentucky last weekend.

Sophomore Luke Edwards is fifth in Conference USA in doubles (13), tied for eighth in triples (two), ninth in slugging percentage (.573) and 13th in batting average (.339).

Junior Geordon Blanton ranks in a tie for seventh in C-USA with 10 stolen bases this season.

Junior pitcher Raymond Pacella is in a tie for 12th in strikeouts with 57 in 50 innings pitched this season.

Edwards also leads Marshall in RBI with 21 as freshman Ryan Leitch leads the team with seven home runs and is in a tie for second in RBI at 20 with sophomore Kyle Schaefer.

Scouting No. 19 Charlotte
The 49ers are one of four teams in C-USA ranked in the top 25 along with No. 14 Louisiana Tech, No. 20 Southern Miss and No. 22 Old Dominion in the D1BASEBALL.com Top-25 poll.

CLT's 18-6 C-USA record leads the East Division sitting one game ahead of ODU.

Austin Knight leads Conference USA with a .370 batting average, 64 hits and 23 doubles. He also leads the 49ers with 49 RBI and 42 runs scored.

Friday's probable starter Bryce McGowan is second in C-USA in wins with seven and is second in strikeouts with 82.
