Herd Women’s Soccer Opens Regular Season Against Wright State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Herd women's soccer begins its 2021 fall regular season on Thursday (Aug. 19) as it plays host to Wright State. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hoops Family Field.
HAVE YOU HEARD
Head coach Michael Swan enters his second season in charge of the Green and White women's soccer program.
Marshall returns sophomore midfielder Abi Hugh, who was named 2020 C-USA Freshman of the Year, was named to the conference's all-freshman team and was an all-region selection. Hugh led the Herd with eight goals, 16 points and 23 shots.
Senior forward Kat Gonzalez trained with the Dominican Republic Women's National Team over the summer.
The Herd has 14 newcomers on the roster, while returning 18 players from the 2020-21 season.
MU played a trio of exhibitions in preparations for the regular season including road contests at James Madison and Eastern Kentucky while closing out its exhibitions with a 5-0 victory over West Virginia State in Huntington on Sunday.
SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE
Travis Sobers is in his first season as the head coach of the Raiders after being with the program since 2013.
WSU played a pair of preseason exhibitions, finishing with a 0-0 draw against Morehead State and a 3-2 win over Miami (OH).
Wright State was tabbed to finish seventh in the 2021 Horizon League preseason poll.
Josie Krupp returns to the Raiders having led the team in scoring with four goals and nine points during the 2020-21 campaign.
SERIES HISTORY
Marshall trails in the all-time series 0-1-1 with the last meeting between the two sides occurring in 2004.
