HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men's golf team leads the field after day one of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Monday, played at the Guyan Golf & Country Club.
The Thundering Herd is ahead by 14 strokes over Wright State, Dayton and Longwood who are all tied for second.
The third and final round tees off Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"We had a wonderful start to the day, and as the conditions got tougher in the afternoon, the guys really hung on and played well," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler (Jones) played two great rounds of golf. Noah (Mullens) really played well today. Good to see Christian (Boyd) and Joseph (Kalaskey) in the top 10. We haven't found ourselves in the lead in the last couple of years, so I am looking forward to seeing how we react tomorrow."
Junior Tyler Jones leads the Herd and is second on the leaderboard after a 6-under 136, just three shots behind Miles Parroco of Northern Kentucky. Jones combined for eight birdies through the two rounds. Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens began the day with a 1-under 70, and then came back with a 2-under 69 in the second round. Mullens is tied for fifth.
Sophomore Joseph Kalaskey is tied for eighth overall after beginning his day with a 4-under 67. Junior Christian Boyd, who is playing as an individual, is also tied for eighth. Boyd started with a 3-under 68 in the first round. Sophomore Brett Montgomery shot a 3-under 68 in the first round. Sophomore Layne Lambert, also playing as an individual is in the top 25 in his first collegiate action. Senior Isaac Prine saw his score improve by seven strokes in the second round.
