Pastoft makes four saves
Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University women's soccer team (3-6-2, 0-2-1 C-USA) played to a scoreless draw on Friday night at Hoops Family Field against the FIU Panthers (1-8-2, 0-1-2 C-USA). The Herd had eight shots on goal to the Panthers four.
"We created a lot of chances throughout the game. Granted they got a penalty, but Mira (Pastoft) came up with a big save. You can't ask for more than a clean sheet to stay in a game and win a game," Marshall women's soccer head coach Michael Swan said after the match.
The first half was slow offensively for both sides. Senior forward Kat Gonzalez fired a shot on target in the 15th minute off a free kick, but it was saved by the FIU keeper Ithaisa Vinoly, followed by a shot by freshman Meg Jarvis off target in the 22nd minute.
Freshman midfielder Ava Hall forced another save by Vinoly at the 23:23 mark.
Freshman forward Alyssa Hardin fired a shot wide left in the 31st minute, with Marshall's best chance of the half coming from Gonzalez at the 33:12 mark as she fired a ball just over the crossbar.
MU's defense held FIU to no shots on goal in the first half as it ended scoreless.
Just over two minutes into the second half, FIU was awarded a penalty kick. Freshman goalkeeper Mira Pastoft saved the penalty off the foot of Laia Munoz Danon and her follow-up shot to keep the contest scoreless.
Jarvis came back in the 51st minute with another shot, but hit the woodwork.
MU earned a corner in the 64th minute when freshman midfielder Courtney Corcoran booted the ball into the box. Freshman defender Olivia Delikat fired the shot, but the attempt was saved by Vinoly.
Gonzalez had another shot on target in the 70th and Corcoran followed in the 72nd as both shots were saved.
Gonzalez launched the final attempt of the half at the 82:05 mark. However, Vinoly was there for the save as the two sides went to overtime.
In the first extra period, Pastoft saved the lone shot on target with 30 seconds left in the period to force a second overtime with the two sides still scoreless.
Jarvis didn't waste much time in the second extra period as she put a shot on target that was saved 33 seconds into the period.
After a Pastoft save in the 108th minute, Gonzalez nearly secured a victory for the Herd with 37 seconds left on her fourth shot on target, but Vinoly made the save as the game ended in a tie.
