NORFOLK, Va. – The Marshall University women's soccer team (3-7-2, 0-3-1 C-USA) dropped its road contest, 4-0, to the Old Dominion Monarchs (8-2-0, 4-0-0 C-USA) on Friday night in Norfolk.
"We were beaten tonight by a good team," Marshall women's soccer head coach Michael Swan said after the loss. "When you come up against a team like ODU who has been in this situation for many years, you have to stand up and compete. We didn't do that as a team and as individuals we made it easy for them."
"We've still got a lot to play for in these next four games and want to see a positive reaction and a much better performance when we host UTSA on Friday night. We've got a young team with not a lot of experience, but we've got a young team that has talent. They've just got to believe in their potential."
ODU's Megan Watts scored the first goal of the contest in the fourth minute and Emily Roberts added another goal for the Monarchs in the 26th minute as MU trailed 2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Mira Pastoft made a save at the 35:15 mark.
Freshman midfielder Ava Hall then recorded the first shot of the game for the Herd, but it was saved by ODU keeper Kasey Perry in the 36th minute.
Pastoft made her second save of the contest in the 69th minute.
Senior forward Kat Gonzalez had Marshall's lone shot in the second half at the 71:43 mark, but the attempt went high.
Old Dominion added a pair of goals late in the match with Yulia Khrystiuk striking in the 81st minute and Emily Garrick scoring in the 86th.
