Herd Volleyball Suffers Defeat to Georgia Southern

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (7-12, 1-6 Sun Belt) fell to the Georgia Southern Eagles (11-6, 3-2 Sun Belt), 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-23), on Friday night at the Cam Henderson Center.
Senior Lydia Montague and junior Regan Tinkle each recorded a team-high 10 kills in the contest. Montague was also in on five blocks, including one solo
Senior Essence Clerkley put up a .455 hitting percentage with six kills on 11 attacks and one error.
The Herd couldn't find a way to get on top of the Eagles in the opening two sets as it fell 25-16 in the first and 25-23 in the second, despite rallying from a five–point deficit.
Marshall took its first lead of the contest, 2-1 in the third set, on a solo block by Montague. MU held a five-point advantage on the Eagles, 13-8, after a kill by Tinkle. Georgia Southern chipped away at the Herd lead and took the final stanza by a narrow two-point margin, 25-23.
