Brown records ninth double-double of the season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (7-13, 1-7 Sun Belt) dropped its contest, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 28-26) on Saturday to the Georgia Southern Eagles (12-6, 4-2 Sun Belt) in the Cam Henderson Center.
Sophomore Brynn Brown recorded her team-high ninth double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs. Senior Lydia Montague had seven kills, a .400 hitting percentage and five blocks in the contest.
The Herd took the opening three points of the first set, but the Eagles answered with a 3-0 rally to tie it up, 3-3. The two sides battled until the scoreboard remained tied 10-10 halfway through the set. Georgia Southern grabbed the lead on the next point and held off Marshall to take the set 25-21.
After dropping the second set 25-15, MU found itself down 10-4 in the third before calling a timeout. However, with three GS attacking errors, a pair of kills by Montague, a kill by junior Regan Tinkle, a service ace by freshman Bianca Giglio, graduate student Macy McElhaney combining for a block with Montague and Montague combining for a block with Brown, the Herd went on a 9-1 rally to take a 13-11 advantage. Marshall and Georgia Southern traded points until the visitors took the final two to take the set and match.
UP NEXT
Marshall will travel to Boone, North Carolina, next weekend for a pair of matches against App State on Friday and Saturday.
