TROY, Ala. – The Marshall University volleyball team (7-10, 1-4 Sun Belt) dropped its contest 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15) on the road Thursday night to the Troy Trojans (9-8, 3-2 Sun Belt).

Senior Lydia Montague recorded a team-high 12 kills with a .524 hitting percentage and a match-high seven blocks.

Sophomore Brynn Brown had 25 assists with fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Gehler collecting 14 digs.

The Herd couldn't get on top in the first two sets, falling 25-20 in the first and, despite tying the score five times, dropped the second 25-22 to the Trojans.

Troy took the first four points in the third set. However, Marshall slowly chipped away until a kill by Brown, followed by a kill by freshman Bianca Giglio gave MU a 16-15 lead. The Trojans grabbed the lead more times during the set, but with the Herd trailing 20-18, the visitors captured seven of the final eight points to take the frame 25-21 and force a fourth set.

The fourth saw the score tied four times in the first 12 points. Although Troy eventually never trailed in eventual final set with Marshall dropping the set, 25-15, and the match.
