Troy Defeats Herd Volleyball on Friday

TROY, Ala. – The Marshall University volleyball team (7-11, 1-5 Sun Belt) fell to the Troy Trojans (10-8, 4-2 Sun Belt) in three sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) on Friday night in Troy, Alabama.
Senior Lydia Montague had eight kills and three blocks with sophomore Brynn Brown collecting 17 assists and fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Gehler recording 15 digs.
The Herd took a 4-3 lead in the opening set after a kill by graduate student Macy McElhaney. However, Troy took the lead two points later and would go on to take the set 25-17.
Marshall led 6-3 early in the second set. The Trojans answered with a 7-0 rally to take a 10-6 lead. MU chipped away at the Troy lead as a kill by senior Essence Clerkley pulled the visitors within one, 24-23, late in the frame. The Trojans captured the set on the next point, 25-23.
Troy took the advantage early in the third frame and never looked back as it went wire-to-wire with the lead to take the set, 25-18, and match.
