HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- With the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships complete, the Marshall cross country teams prepare for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship hosted by Penn State.
In a change from the original schedule, the women's 6k race will be held at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 10k race set for 11:30 a.m.
"We're coming off an exciting conference meet two weeks ago," Marshall head coach Caleb Bowen said. "We had a great intersquad meet last weekend, and we're looking to be in the top 15, because in the top 15 you are considered a ranked team in the region, so that is our goal for both men and women."
The top two finishing teams in each of the nine regions qualify for the DI Cross Country Nationals in Stillwater, Oklahoma on November 19. Additionally, 13 teams will receive an at-large bid into Nationals as chosen by an NCAA subcommittee.
To qualify individually, the first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships. Coach Bowen hopes for a chance for senior Abby Herring, one of three Marshall runners to earn All-Conference honors at the Sun Belt Championships last month.
"Abby Herring has a shot at making the national meet," Bowen added. "Obviously we have to have a lot of things go our way, It is the top four individuals that are not on the two qualifying teams, it can be tough but she has done an amazing job competing this year and I'd love to see her go for it!"
Seven men and women will travel to the meet and are scheduled to compete. They are:
Men:
Brett Armbruster
Kent Bee
Jacob Birurakis
Kazuma Bowring
Matthew Schenenberg
Evan White
Branden Wood
Women:
Asha Bora
Madelyn Garrison
Abby Herring
Kalei Jordan
Kylee Mastin
Sydney Smith
Hannah Wyler
"We're looking for a really good performance out of everyone, it will be rainy and wet, but hopefully everyone runs tough and ultimately competes well!"
