Herd Heads to Alabama for Series against the Blazers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (12-12-1, 2-4 C-USA) goes back on the road for a three-game series in Birmingham, Alabama, against the UAB Blazers (17-7, 3-3 C-USA).

The Herd dropped a mid-week contest on Tuesday, 7-3, to the West Virginia Mountaineers at the Kennedy Center.

Jordon Billups hit his second homer of the season as Travis Sankovich tallied a pair of RBI in the game.

Luke Edwards leads Marshall in batting average (.343), hits (36) and slugging percentage (.543). The junior's 36 hits rank fourth in C-USA. He is tied with Kyle Schaefer for the team lead in home runs at five.

Ryan Leitch has eight doubles and 26 RBI this season, both lead the squad, while ranking second with 32 hits.

Geordon Blanton ranks second in Conference USA with 11 stolen bases on 12 attempts.

Jeffrey Purnell sits at third in the league with 46 strikeouts, while his teammates Zac Addkison and Ryan Capuano have 39, tied for sixth most in C-USA.

Scouting UAB
The Blazers fell in two out of three games to Middle Tennessee last weekend, but picked up mid-week victories over Samford and Birmingham-Southern.

Brooks Walton is 4-0 in six starts this season with a 3.78 ERA. Walton is one of five Conference USA pitchers to throw a complete game this season.
