Edwards extends on-base streak to 51 games

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (19-23-1, 8-12 C-USA) dropped game two, 25-4, to the Charlotte 49ers (27-16, 10-10 C-USA), Saturday afternoon at the Kennedy Center.
 
The 49ers scored seven runs in the first two innings, including a solo homer by David McCabe in the first and a grand slam by Cam Fisher in the second. The Herd cut into the deficit with three runs in the bottom of the second on a RBI double by Drew Steelhammer, a RBI triple by Christian Lucio and a RBI single by Daniel Carinci as it trailed 7-3.
 
Charlotte's Will Butcher, McCabe, and Jack Dragum combined for four runs on a trio of homers in the top of the third to extend its advantage to 11-3.
 
Luke Edwards extended his on-base streak to 51 games with a single to center in the bottom of the third.
 
Relief pitcher Zac Addkison threw 1-2-3 frames in each of the of fourth and fifth innings for Marshall. The Herd added another run in the bottom of the fifth as Steelhammer brought home Jordon Billups on a fielder's choice as it trailed 11-4.
 
The 49ers plated 14 runs from the sixth through the eighth inning. Fisher hit his second grand slam of the contest, McCabe recorded his third long ball in the game and Josh Madole hit a homer to right between the three frames as the visitors lead 25-4.
 
Left fielder Eddie Leon came in from the outfield to pitch the ninth for MU and set down the side in order.
 
UP NEXT
Due to weather forcing the sides to get just one game in on Saturday, Marshall is set to close the series with Charlotte at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
