Herd Volleyball Travels to South Carolina for Contests at Furman and USC Upstate

Marshall to face Furman on Friday, Upstate Saturday

 
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (4-5) heads to the Palmetto State this weekend for contests at Furman on Friday and at USC Upstate on Saturday.

Series History:
vs. Furman – Marshall leads the all-time series 15-14, last meeting was on Aug. 31, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois (3-2 Marshall win)
vs. USC Upstate – The Herd trails in the all-time series 3-1, last meeting was on Sept. 16, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee (3-0 Marshall win)
 
Marshall ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in kills with 460, behind ULM's 492.
 
Graduate student Macy McElhaney leads the team with 95 kills while being tied with senior Lydia Montague in service aces with 11.
 
Montague has been a force on the net this with a team-high 47 blocks, second most in the conference, while sitting second on the Herd with 92 kills.
 
Sophomore Brynn Brown is tied for the NCAA lead with three triple-doubles this season. The setter has 271 assists through the team's first nine contests.
 
Fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Gehler leads Marshall with 140 digs this season, fourth most in the SBC.

The Opponents
Furman
The Paladines have a 5-3 record and play USC Upstate on Thursday night.
 
Ava Augustin leads Furman with 86 kills this season (3.56 per set).
 
Setter Sarah Turner has 203 assists this season (6.77 per set).
 
USC Upstate
The Spartans are 2-8 this season and travel to Furman for a contest on Thursday night.
 
Ashleigh Nicoll leads her side in kills with 83 and points at 92.
 
On defense, Nikki Deslatte has a team-best 32 blocks to this point in the season.
