HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--The Marshall cross country teams race at the 21st Annual Live in Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 1st. The annual meet is one of the most highly attended college and high school cross country events in the United States.

The meet takes place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville.  The women compete in the 5k Gold Race at 10:15 a.m. while the men's gun will go off at 10:45 a.m. for the 8k Blue Race.

"This meet is going to be a lot of fun," Marshall head coach Caleb Bowen said. "The weather is looking great, the course is fast, and we are running against some great competition. The women will start us off in the Gold Race at 10:15 where they will race against schools such as App State, Auburn, WVU, among other strong teams. Then the men will race the Blue Race where we should be pushing close to the front against teams like Morehead State, Kennesaw State, Northern Kentucky, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, and Western Carolina."

The Marshall women have scored fourth and fifth place finishes in each of their first two meets. Abby Herring has led the way for the Herd, with a pair of top 10 finishes. Herring won the 5k Blue Race a season ago, with an impressive time of 17:45.7, which remains as the senior from Parkersburg's PR.

The Thundering Herd men's team have scored a pair of team top 10 finishes themselves, finishing sixth and eighth at their first two races respectively. Sophomore Branden Wood has paced the side in the first two meets. The Louisa, Kentucky native set a new 8k PR his last time out at Virginia Tech, racing a 25:57.8, a near 45 second drop from his previous best.

The competition will be some of the largest Marshall will see all season. Nearly 6,000 runners across 12 different races will compete in the Louisville Classic on Saturday.

"The key to this meet is just run hard from the gun and roll with the front pack," Bowen added. "It's hard to pass a lot of people if you are in the back so you have to take a risk and go for it early."

10 men and women will travel to the meet and are scheduled to compete. They are:

Men:

Brett Armbruster
Kent Bee
Jacob Birurakis
Kazuma Bowring
Quay Harrison
Ronnie Saunders
