JONESBORO, Ark. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (12-18, 4-12 Sun Belt) rejected 18 attacks in the team's 2023 regular-season finale at Arkansas State (15-13, 5-11 Sun Belt) on Saturday in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Herd fell in five sets, 3-2, to the Red Wolves (19-25, 27-25, 25-16, 15-25, 15-10).

"The end of our regular season was hopeful; we weren't offensive enough, but coming out with 18 blocks was a reminder of what Marshall volleyball is about," Herd volleyball head coach Ari Aganus said. "Tough defense and smart controlled volleyball, we are so excited to get a chance to take a quick break and get after it in the tournament!"

Brynn Brown fell two digs shy of a triple-double with 24 assists, 13 kills and eight digs as Lydia Montague recorded a double-double with 10 blocks, four solo, and 10 kills in the match. Sarah Wadsworth registered a match-high 18 digs.

The lead changed hands four times in the first set, but with the score tied 16-16, MU went on a run. The visitors rattled off nine of the final 12 points in the opening frame to take it 25-19. The Herd had a .200 hitting percentage in the set.

Marshall didn't let Arkansas State get much going in the fourth set. After the Red Wolves led 1-0 early, MU took control and forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 25-15.

ASU took a hotly contested second set, 27-25, which saw the score tied 15 times and had nine lead changes. The Red Wolves also won the third set, 25-16, and fifth, 15-10, to take the match.
