NORFOLK, Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (11-9, 2-3 Sun Belt) fell 21-5 on Saturday in game of a three game series in Norfolk against the Old Dominion Monarchs (19-4, 4-1 Sun Belt).

"This game is humbling," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the loss. "Yesterday was all Herd and today was not. The series is tied, and tomorrow we have the opportunity to win a big road series and that is our focus."

Marshall tallied four of its runs in the fifth on a Kyle Schaefer RBI single, an Owen Ayers two-RBI double and Ayers scored when Elijah Vogelsong reached on an error.

Ayers went 2-for-3 in the contest with a pair of extra-base hits, including his team-leading fourth homer of the season in the top of the eighth.

UP NEXT
The Herd looks to take series over the Monarchs on Sunday in the rubber match at 1 p.m.
