Herd Baseball Drops Doubleheader, Series at Georgia State

ATLANTA – The Marshall University baseball team (16-25, 5-16 Sun Belt) fell 7-6 and 5-1 on Saturday as the Georgia State Panthers (24-21, 11-10 Sun Belt) took the doubleheader and series from MU in Atlanta.

Game 1 – Georgia State 7, Marshall 6
Starting pitcher Raymond Pacella hurled 5.1 hitless innings to start the ballgame. The sixth-year senior struck out four in his 6.0 innings of work.

Daniel Carinci, Luke Edwards and Chris Noble each recorded two hits in the contest. It marked Edwards' 15th, Carinci's 13th and Noble's fifth such game this season.

Edwards launched his sixth homer of the season to right center in the fourth, homering in back-to-back games.
Â
Noble also drove home a pair of runs marking his fourth multi-RBI game this season.

Game 2 – Georgia State 5, Marshall 1

The Herd got on the board first with a Carinci RBI-single that scored Edwards after the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native led off his second straight game with a double. Carinci's base knock extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Zac Addkison started on the bump recording seven punch outs in 6.0 innings on the mound.

Owen Ayers saw an eight-game hitting streak come to an end, but extended his on-base streak to 10 games with a walk in the eighth.

Marshall hosts Virginia Tech on Tuesday in Charleston, West Virginia, at GoMart Ballpark. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
