Herd Baseball Welcomes Troy to Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (16-31, 5-19 Sun Belt) closes out the home portion of its Sun Belt Conference schedule with a three-game series against the Troy Trojans (33-17, 13-11 Sun Belt) beginning Friday at the Kennedy Center.

With 61 hits and 15 stolen bases, Luke Edwards leads MU in both categories. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native ranks third all-time in program history with 243 hits and is tied for third in RBI with 134.

Daniel Carinci's .314 batting average leads the squad as the native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, has 15 multi-hit games this season, including five contests with three or more.

Friday's scheduled starting pitcher Patrick Copen has 74 strikeouts this season, fifth most in the Sun Belt.

Raymond Pacella, who is scheduled to start Saturday's contest, has the most starts in the conference and tied for the most in the country this season at 15.

Closer Ryan Capuano has five saves this season to go with a 3.13 ERA. The Canadian has made 20 appearances and thrown 37.1 innings.

The Trojans took their weekend series over Georgia Southern before falling at Alabama on Tuesday night.

Shane Lewis has smashed the ball this season as he sits second in Division I baseball with 26 homers and fifth with 72 RBI. Both numbers lead the SBC.
