Ferraro hits sixth homer of the season
Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (16-33, 5-21 Sun Belt) fell 6-3 in game two of its series at the Kennedy Center against the Troy Trojans (35-17, 15-11 Sun Belt) on Saturday. With his 16th start on the bump, Raymond Pacella is now tied for second most pitching starts in a season in program history.
"Ray competes his tail off. You know you're going to get groundballs when Ray is on the mound and we responded with good defense," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said of his team's defensive effort in the game. "KB (Peralta) made three great plays. That needs to be a constant. Not every day you're going to hit, but every day you need to bring your glove to the ballpark."
Luke Edwards, who went 2-for-5 at the plate, registered his 18th multi-game of the season, tied for the team lead, and scored Chris Noble on a single to right center in the third. The native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sits at 246 hits in his career, four away from tying Adam Frederick for second most in program history at 250.
In the bottom of the sixth, Gio Ferraro hit a 1-1 pitch to right field for a two-out, two-run homer scoring Kyle Schaefer. The longball was Ferraro's sixth of the season.
Kebler Peralta recorded a pair of hits for his eighth contest of at least two hits this season. Peralta also made a few great defensive plays at third base, including a snag in foul territory, running into the dugout fence.
Pacella struck out seven Troy batters in 7.0 innings on the mound.
Out of bullpen, Drew Harlow and Ryan Capuano combined to throw scoreless eighth and ninth frames.
