MU falls to Troy
Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (16-34, 5-22 Sun Belt) honored eight on Senior Day prior to Sunday's contest against the Troy Trojans (36-17, 16-11 Sun Belt) at the Kennedy Center. MU fell 4-2 in the ballgame.
"The real story for me today is honoring our seniors like we did," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said about honoring the seniors. "We did a great job of that as a department honoring those guys before our game. They've been through a lot in this program. They've been through some tough days and a coaching change. I'm really proud of that group."
The Herd honored seven players, Ryan Capuano, Daniel Carinci, Luke Edwards, Christian Lucio, Chris Noble, Raymond Pacella and Kyle Schaefer along with team photographer Jack Kelly prior to the contest.
"From a game standpoint, I think we've grown this week as a ball club and as a program," Beals said. "I think there has been some growth in our competitiveness. They're still missing those small opportunities. We made a couple of errors that fed them. We gave up a free base in the first and he scores. Then the errors in the second move them over without a hit. Then we had a runner on third multiple innings and we struck out with less than two outs and all we needed was a ball in the field, exactly as they did in the first. We had multiple opportunities to do the same thing."
Starting pitcher Zac Addkison threw 7.0 innings giving up four runs, just two earned, on four hits and three walks while fanning eight Trojans.
"We got great pitching from Zac (Addkison) and Cap overall," Beals commented. "We played the ball off the bat well on the defensive side."
Capuano came on in relief in the eighth and hurled two perfect frames to close out the contest with a pair of strikeouts.
The Herd tallied its first when Carinci crossed home as Schaefer was caught in a run down to end the first after both recorded a two-out single each.
Kebler Peralta then brought home Gio Ferraro the very next inning with a base hit to right field.

Marshall is set to host Morehead Tuesday at the Kennedy Center before heading to eighth-ranked Coastal Carolina to close out the regular season.
"We have to stay in that growth mindset and keep getting better," Beals said about heading into the final four games. "By no means am I forfeiting anything for these guys in their last four games. We're going to give it like heck for them. I want everyone driven towards us getting better."
