HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 11 Marshall University men's soccer team kicks off the 2023 regular season with a home contest against Oakland. First kick is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Hoops Family Field.
Chris Grassie is entering his seventh season with the Herd sitting at 67 wins since coming to Huntington.

PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Marshall returns 2023 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Matthew Bell. Bell tallied 10 goals last season, tied for the SBC lead, and was named to the league's preseason all-conference team.
- MU welcomes some newcomers to the roster, including Alvaro Garcia-Pascual. Garcia-Pascual finished last season tied with Bell for the conference lead at 10 goals during the campaign at Coastal Carolina. He was also named first-team all-conference in 2022.
- Alex Stjernegaard, another newcomer, was the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year as put up 13 assists and four goals during the season at Quinnipiac.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
- Oakland is led by head coach Eric Poque, who is entering his 15th season as head coach and 22nd overall with the program.
- The Golden Grizzlies went 4-10-5 last season, falling in the Horizon League tournament semifinals.
- Owen Smith returns as the team's leading scorer. Smith tallied nine points on three goals and three assists in 2022.
