Marshall freshman cards 1-under 71 on final day to vault into top-10
WALLACE, N.C. – Marshall freshman Kasey McIlvaine carded a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round to finish tied for sixth at the River Landing Classic in Wallace, N.C.
McIlvaine surged up the leaderboard in the final six holes, recording three birdies during the stretch, including a birdie on her final hole – the par-5, 7th hole – to earn the top-10 finish.
McIlvaine's 71 tied for the lowest round of the day with four other players who were the only players out of 74 competitors to finish the final round under par.
"A Top-10 finish for Kasey is great and an under-par round to finish the tournament is even better," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I'm proud of her and everyone else for being so resilient this week. It's time to rest and prepare for our next event in the first week of April."
Marshall finished the event in 7th place and shot its best round of the event on the final day.
Emily McLatchey shot a 3-under 75 to finish the event tied for 21st and Abbey Bull shot a 4-over 76 on the final day to aid the Herd's cause.
The tournament ended a stretch in which the team competed in Arizona and North Carolina in consecutive weeks.
Marshall now has the next three weeks off before heading to Pawley's Island to compete in the Golfweek Invitational from April 1-3.
