Herd Baseball Drops Heartbreaker in Series Opener to SEMO

Vogelsong hits second homer of the season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (4-9) suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the series opener on Friday to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (7-8) 6-3, at Jack Cook Field.

In the top of the third, Elijah Vogelsong launched his second homer of the season to right field, scoring Kebler Peralta, to give Marshall the early 2-0 lead.

Then in the top of the sixth, Peralta smoked a two-out single up the middle to bring home Gio Ferraro to make it 3-0 MU.
Â
On the bump, Drew Harlow threw 8.1 innings starting on the hill. The right-hander struck out five Redhawks while giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks.

The Herd couldn't comeback from a six-run top of the ninth for SEMO.

UP NEXT
The Herd is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday for game two of the series against the Redhawks beginning at 3 p.m. at Jack Cook Field.
