Marshall Baseball Uses Big Sixth to Take Game Two Over SEMO

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (5-9) used a five-run bottom of the sixth to take game two, 7-5, over Southeast Missouri State (7-9) on Saturday afternoon.

"We talk about family, that's a family win," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the win. "Pitching was solid all the way around. A few free bases more than ideal, but our guys competed well. We played great defense and we got big hits when we needed them."

Calin Smith had a big day at the plate for The Herd going 2-for-4 with two RBI, including a two-out, two-run homer that scored Kebler Peralta in the sixth to give MU its first lead of the game at 5-0. The senior then legged out an infield single to start the eighth and scored on a Tre Hondras double to tally an insurance run and make it 7-5.

Marshall's five run sixth also featured an RBI double by AJ Havrilla to score Owen Ayers, a Cam Harthan groundout that brought home Gio Ferraro and a Peralta infield single to score Elijah Vogelsong.

Ayers scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.

On the mound, Bryce Blevins made his first start of the season going 5.2 innings giving up three runs, only two earned, while striking out seven Redhawks.

Griffin Miller earned his second win of the season striking out one of the two batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth.

With five strikeouts in three innings of work, Nicholas Weyrich earned his second save of the season.
