HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (12-20, 5-8 Sun Belt) battled in its series opener in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Friday in a 3-1 loss to No. 19 Louisiana (26-9, 12-1 Sun Belt).
Â
"Very competitive game tonight - Harlow and Schofield both pitched well for us," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said. "We had our chance offensively and were not able to take advantage. Give their pitching credit - their starter kept us off balance and the reliever beat us with a good fastball. We look forward to getting back at it tomorrow."
Â
Drew Harlow started on the mound for The Herd going 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts while allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. Out the bullpen, Peyton Schofield threw 1.2 scoreless frames giving up just one hit and striking out one batter.
Â
With his second homer of the season, Gio Ferraro tallied Marshall's run on a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Â
On a single in the fourth, Cam Harthan extended his on-base streak to 19 games with AJ Havrilla's walk drawn in the seventh extending his streak to 13 games. A single in the sixth extended Owen Ayers hitting streak to 12 games.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on two home runs and added an insurance run in the seventh.
