Blevins Strikes Out Career-High 10 at No. 19 Louisiana

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Bryce Blevins registered a career-high 10 batters for the Marshall University Baseball team (12-21, 5-9 Sun Belt) on Saturday in Lafayette, Louisiana, against the Ragin' Cajuns. The Herd fell in the pitching duel, 1-0, to No. 19 Louisiana (27-9, 13-1 Sun Belt).

"Bryce Blevins was really good again," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said about his starter's performance. "Today was a pitchers dual that we came up short on. Give their pitchers credit for keeping us off balance, but we simply have to be better tougher offensively."

Blevins registered his fourth quality start of the season with his 10 strikeouts coming across 8.0 innings of work. The sophomore lefty allowed just one run on seven hits and one walk.

The lefty recorded at least one strike out in each inning thrown with two in the second and fourth frames.

With his 14th double of the season in the first inning, Owen Ayers extended his hitting streak to 14 games with AJ Havrilla reached base safely for the 15th game in a row on a walk in the second.

Cam Harthan failed to reach base for the first time in his last 20 games.

The lone run in the ballgame came on a Louisiana groundout in the third as MU nearly got out of the inning with a double play.

Marshall is set to end its three-game series in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST against the No. 19 Ragin' Cajuns.
