HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (12-22, 5-10 Sun Belt) fell in another pitching duel to the No. 19 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (28-9, 14-1 Sun Belt), 2-0, on Sunday in Lafayette, Louisiana. The three-game series saw a total of just seven runs scored.
"Another strong performance out of our bullpen - they settled us and gave us a chance to get back on the ball game," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said about his bullpen's performance. "On the other hand, it was another tough day for our offense. We need to get the swagger back in our offense. Preparation is where it will come from, and we will do that work."
The Marshall bullpen held Louisiana in check throwing 7.1 scoreless innings to finish the ballgame. Griffin Miller gave The Herd 4.0 innings of relief with four strikeouts while giving up five hits and issuing no walks.
Alex McKay followed with 1.1 of scoreless baseball as Nicholas Weyrich finished the contest with 2.0 scoreless frames.
With a single in the eighth, AJ Havrilla extended his on-base streak to 16 games. Owen Ayers saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end with a 0-for-2 day at the plate but drew a pair of walks extending his on-base streak to 14 contests.
