Final Results

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Marshall freshman Kasey McIlvaine was named to the Sun Belt's All-Tournament Team after finishing tied for 5th place at the end of stroke play for the 2024 SBC Women's Golf Championships, which concluded on Wednesday at The Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Alabama.

McIlvaine showed consistency throughout the tournament, finishing at 2-over par with rounds of 73-73-72.

Her final round tally of Even par matched for the top round among Herd golfers with sophomore Olivia Kochan, who also finished in the top-10, tying for 7th place.

"I'm so proud of the fight I saw from the team this week," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We came up a bit short of match play, but wow! These girls played some great golf. Kasey has been solid for us the entire year and Olivia had a really good tournament as well!"

In the team standings, Marshall, who was seeded 11th coming in, finished 7th in the overall standings and narrowly missed out on match play in a jumbled middle of the pack. The strong showing is an improvement from 2023 when the team placed 11th.

The top four teams advanced to Thursday's match play semifinals and the Herd golfers only missed the top four by five strokes.

McIlvaine took advantage of the par-5s in Wednesday's round, notching two of her three birdies on Holes No. 5 and 16 – the latter of which got her back to Even-par for her final round.

Kochan also took advantage of the par-5s with three of her five birdies on the day coming on the course's longest holes. She made the turn at 1-under after a pair of birdies in a three-hole stretch before a bogey on the 18th hole left her at Even-par 72 for her round.

Emily McLatchey matched Kochan for the team lead with five birdies in Wednesday's round. McLatchey carded a 3-over 75 and finished in tied for 23rd.

Abbey Bull added a pair of birdies in her final round for the Herd en route to a 78 while Hanna Shrout added one of the day's highlights, notching one of only nine birdies in the field on the difficult par-3 17th hole near the end of her round.

The late birdie will be a lasting highlight for Shrout who concludes her career with the Herd as the team's lone senior. Everyone else is scheduled to return for the Herd.

"I love this team so much," Burkhammer said. "Overall, the future is so bright for Marshall Women's Golf."
