HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (13-26, 6-12 Sun Belt) dropped the series finale to the Old Dominion Monarchs (21-18, 9-9 Sun Belt), 12-2, on Sunday at Jack Cook Field. It marks the first series loss for The Herd at Jack Cook Field.
"It's a tough day," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the contest. "We had an opportunity to win a home series. It's the first one we dropped here at Jack Cook Field and that's disappointing. It's disappointing for not protecting our home surface, and most importantly we gave up ground in the standings."
Cam Harthan went 2-for-4 at the plate for his 11th multi-hit game of the season, tied with Owen Ayers for the team lead.
Marshall's two runs came in the first as Caden Kaiser chased home Harthan and Ayers with a two-run single.
Ayers went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 19 games, joining Harthan and AJ Havrilla for the longest on-base streak by a MU player this season.
The Monarchs scattered their runs across six innings, including three in each of the fourth and ninth frames.
