NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Marshall Track & Field faced stern competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational Saturday with three scoring results, but numerous season and personal-bests.
"We had some good performances this weekend! It was our first time on the road against some high level competition," Director of Track & Field said. "We still have some gaps to fill but with continued hard work and focus we will get there. We had highlights in every event group, including Rebecca Merritt in the throws, Addison Painter in the long jump, Kylee Mastin in distance events and Micah Hinton in the sprints. We are excited about the women's DMR breaking the school record and Addison Painter bettering his own long jump school record. We'll continue working on preparation and execution and supporting our teammates."
Scorers Saturday included veterans Rebecca Merritt and Kylee Mastin, who raced a personal record 3K time of 9:26.76. Saturday also notably saw Herd freshman Micah Hinton qualify for the finals in the 60 meter dash.
Hinton - a freshman from Chesapeake, Va. - won Heat 4 of the 60 meter prelims to automatically qualify for the finals. He then raced a 6.81 in the finals, finishing four-hundredths of a second from breaking a school record set by Arthur West from 2000.
